Hello, my name is Sandhya and I live in the Washington D.C area. I have taken a somewhat circuitous route from India to get here, by way of a south central pacific island called Nauru and London and several stops in the U.S till present where I teach vegetarian cooking.
Some of the things I love to do-having wonderful and stimulating conversations, gardening and travel. I appreciate architecture and good design. I love handicrafts and collect fabrics. And then there is always food! Everyday, my family connects through the preparation, serving and partaking of food and I am so thankful for this communion and the joy it brings me. Mindful of a vast number of people who don’t have enough to eat or sometimes nothing at all, I try to be more conscious of these less fortunate people while I enjoy the blessings of plenty with my friends and family.

It is wonderful to be able through blogging to meet people such as you, with such a fascinating background and stories to tell.

Nauru?!? I’ve always dreamed of meeting someone who’s been to this fabled island! I’d love to hear more sometime!

Hi Sandhya, I love this blog! I’m not vegetarian, but I try to make a mix of veggie and non veggie meals. Your pictures are lovely. I’ll be back to visit for more food inspirations. I have a food blog at http://kitcheningaround.blogspot.com if you’re interested. Take care!

Hi Shruti
Welcome to my blog home and hope you make plenty of visits. Aww what a cute couple you two are and love the tongue in cheek cereal post by your husband.

Hi Sandhya,
I’m a writer for REDBOOK, and we’re planning a web exclusive story on oozy desserts that make us drool. We came across your salted lava cake. It looks delicious, and we want our readers to see how good it looks (and tastes!), too.
We were hoping to use the photo of your dessert in a slideshow, and in turn, we’ll link back to your blog/website for recipe details.
If you’re interested, we’d love if you would send these high-resolution photos of your yumminess https://vegetarianirvana.wordpress.com/2011/10/13/salty-caramel-lava-cake/ by Monday, 10/22, and we’ll take care of the rest! Of course, we’ll share a link once the story goes live at the end of the month.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Best,
Kelsie Blazier

Sandhya, I was browsing your recipes; loved the way you frame your pictures. Just curious, why disable the comments section in each post? 🙂
I loved your post on the ‘gutter’ planter. Also wondering what you are planning for this growing season?

Hi Shri
Comments have not been disabled, they can be made at the top of each post just under the title of the post. It is easier to access here than have the comment box below posts because if there are many comments you’ll have to scroll down that much farther to enter your comments.
I am glad you asked about my garden because I love to talk about it!
I have Red Habenero, tomatoes, Thai and Italian frying peppers, kale and melon. Planning to get eggplant and zucchini, Thai and Italian basil. Radish is coming along nicely. I am also going to try edamame for the first time, the saplings are about a couple of inches tall so far.
Thanks for your interest Shri.

Hi, Sandhya! You have a great blog going here! I envy you your garden – here in Delhi I have just a teeny tiny patch with restricted sunlight.

Thanks, Anita. Actually my garden is quite tiny. It surprises me every time how much one can grow from a small patch of earth.
